Thursday July 10th- Our next event...
Creating Experience with the Minneapolis Institute of Arts Tour

Building experience is something we all consider in our usability practice. During this event we will have the opportunity to hear from the Minneapolis Institute of Arts (MIA) about the experience people have when they visit the museum.

The event will be in two parts: The first part of this event will be a presentation on how MIA designs and plans tours for visitors who have different interaction needs. As part of MIA’s standard tours they offer Touch tours for visitors who are blind or have low vision and ASL Interpreted tours. MIA will discuss with us what they consider when creating and planning these tours. There will also be discussion about the architectural history of MIA and how three buildings from unique eras work together to form the art museum and how the building have been design to feel as though they are one. The second part of the event will be a tour of the museum with a MIA docent to discuss the techniques that artists use to draw people into the art. In the discussion will be techniques artists use to awaken the five senses to experience the art, how artists use color, line, texture, or shape, and how geography, beliefs, needs, or materials affect creation of art in different times and places.
