Join us September 12th at Trane to hear Rachel Nilsson, Usability Analyst, discuss how her team used a contextual task analysis to set the scope and design of a mobile app for a building automation system.

Rachel’s team recently created a mobile app for a complex and full-featured HVAC system controller, which had previously only interfaced to a web application. When her team started planning the mobile app, there were wildly divergent ideas among the team and stakeholders about which features and data from the web application should make the jump to the mobile app. To answer that question, Rachel’s team conducted a contextual task analysis and used the data to set the scope and design of the app. The app release was successful, both in terms of the number of downloads and the response from customers.

Rachel’s presentation will walk us through how the contextual task analysis was planned and conducted and how the results were shared with the whole team and integrated into the design/development process for the app, including the successes and pitfalls encountered.
