Join us Thursday, February 21, to hear Meghan Hatalla, former web strategist at Metropolitan State University, guide us through the redesign of Metropolitan State's online student orientation. The year-long project provided opportunities for user research and testing and lessons for gaining support from a skeptical constituency.

The online orientation redesign involved coordination of resources across departments, a challenge in itself, and proved to be a sensitive point for many of the subject matter experts involved. As the de facto project manager, Meghan used information gained from surveys, job shadowing, and usability testing to inform responsive design, content strategy, pathway, and also to prove to a skeptical and emotionally invested constituency that the five-year-old website needed to be updated.

This session will share strategies for conducting practical user research to improve a website's user experience as well as strategies for getting stakeholder support.

Parking is available in a lot on Maria Avenue between East 6th and East 7th Streets, directly across from the campus. The parking fee is $2.50. Handicapped accessible parking is readily available in the parking lots adjacent to the campus.

About the Presenter
Meghan Hatalla is currently a technical training specialist at Century College, but for the past three years worked as a web strategist in Student Affairs at Metropolitan State University. In her former role, she spearheaded web-based initiatives ranging from social media strategy for Metropolitan State University to implementing a customer relationship management tool to the most recent project prior to her departure, the entire redesign of Metropolitan State’s online New Student Orientation.

Meghan draws on her interdisciplinary background involving work in corporate, start-up and higher education to help frame her viewpoint, and is currently co-authoring a textbook on interactive portfolio elements and design. She received her BS in English & International Studies from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls in 2007 and MS in Technical Communication from Metropolitan State University in 2009.
